// About the Organization
Youth Futures operates in 61 localities in Israel, supporting at-risk children and their families through its holistic 'Mentor' model, providing security, tools and opportunities for growth in the Israeli society.
// Project Description
Family Space provides a therapist who offers private counseling in addition to the Mentor's support. Families are referred to this initiative by the Youth Futures Mentor, in coordination with school counselors. The families undergo screening and suitability checks and once approved, a tailored treatment plan is mapped out. Each family receives between 15-25 sessions. The therapist provides Mentors with individual guidance as well as group training sessions.
// Project Goals
Family Space aims to provide professional psychological therapy treatment for at-risk families participating in the Youth Futures' program. The therapy treatment is in addition to the Mentor who is assigned to each family. The goal is to equip the participating families with coping mechanisms, strengthen their resilience, enhance relationships, mitigate risk factors and improve overall family functioning.
// Target Population
Youth Futures supports at-risk families in Kiryat Gat, some of whom require in-depth therapy beyond the Mentors' scope. Family Space serves approximately 15 such families annually, impacting them, their extended families and the community.
// Outcomes
Short term outcomes: participating families will begin to show significant improvement in their functioning and in the issues for which they sought therapy. Long term outcomes: enhancing parent-child bonds, parental skills and authoritative presence in the child's life.
// Project Timeline
Aug-Oct: candidate identification and referral. Oct-Nov: compatibility confirmation. Nov-Dec: intake, developing treatment plans. Dec-Jun: treatment, average of 25 sessions per family throughout the year, individual and group staff training. June – Evaluation.
// Budget Sustainability
Youth Future strives to form new partnerships, strengthen ties with the Ministry of Education, Mifal Hapis and local authorities to increase program support. At present they are expected to fund 60% of the program, with the remaining costs covered by the organization’s international partners. In the event that the full amount requested is not approved, Youth future will seek alternative funding sources to avoid cutting back on program components and to ensure critical support for the families.
